AGL Liddell plan slap in face for PM: Greens
Australian Greens climate and energy spokesperson Adam Bandt MP and NSW Greens energy spokesperson Jeremy Buckingham say energy giant AGL’s Liddell plan, released today, is a stinging rebuke to Malcolm Turnbull’s coal obsession.
The plan focuses on renewables, battery storage, demand management, new technologies and some gas peaking power to replace the ageing coal plant over coming decade.
Australian Greens climate and energy spokesperson, Adam Bandt, said:
“This is a slap in the face for the PM. It is a stinging rebuke to Malcolm Turnbull who has been clinging to coal as the world changes rapidly around him.
“This plan confirms again that the Prime Minister’s coal obsession is more expensive, less reliable and more polluting than the alternative.”
NSW Greens energy spokesperson Jeremy Buckingham said:
"AGL has successfully stared down Prime Minister Turnbull's coal obsession. It's clear that renewable energy rather than coal is the future for NSW.
"The price trajectory with renewables versus gas is such that by the time AGL need to make a final investment decision on building new gas peaking plants in NSW, more renewable energy backed with battery storage will make far more economic sense."
