Greens Federal Member for Melbourne Adam Bandt MP today said the only party preferencing the Liberals is Labor.

“There is no deal. Let's be clear about what is going on here. Labor is desperately pleading for Liberal preferences to hang on to their inner-city seats,” Mr Bandt said.

“The most likely deal is one between Labor and Liberal, just like at the last election, where they joined up to try and stop the Greens from winning Melbourne.”

“Michael Danby in Melbourne Ports has already announced Labor will preference Liberals ahead of the Greens and now he's begging the Liberals to return the favour north of the river.”

“The Greens know we have to win seats in our own right without relying on preferences from anyone, like I did in Melbourne last time, and that's what we're aiming for in Batman and Wills.”

“There's only one party preferencing the Liberals and that's Labor. At every election some Greens branches run an 'open ticket', saying 'vote 1 Greens and decide the rest yourself' and I expect that will happen again this election.”

“Unlike Labor, the Greens won't be preferencing the Liberals.”
