Australia trailing while rest of the world ratifies Paris Climate agreement
Greens climate and energy spokesperson Adam Bandt MP said it was appalling Australia was trailing the rest of the world on ratifying the Paris Climate Agreement after the accords reached their ratification threshold today.
Mr Bandt said while Europe, China, and the United States and seventy other countries have ratified the agreement, the Turnbull government was pursuing its war on renewable energy instead.
“This is a historic day for the planet with the global agreement to keep warming below 1.5 degrees in place with Europe’s ratification today,” Mr Bandt said.
“While the rest of world is moving, the Turnbull government hasn’t ratified the climate agreement and instead has declared war on renewable energy.”
“The Energy Ministers meeting tomorrow should be discussing how to retire coal fired power stations and grow renewables so we meet the requirements of the Paris Agreement.”
