After a long campaign by the employers and the Coalition, the Fair Work Commission has decided to cut penalty rates for people working in retail, fast food, hospitality and pharmacies. This is a devastating cut in people's wages that will hurt some of our lowest-paid and youngest workers hard. At a time when we are experiencing record low wages growth, more people than ever depend on penalty rates to pay the bills.
Penalty rates aren't a bonus, they're a core part of our rights at work. Weekend and public holiday penalty rates compensate people working unsociable hours to keep our community running while the rest of us spend time with our loved ones.
Sign the petition to stop these cuts and protect people's penalty rates.
Our pressure is already working. Over the weekend, Labor changed their position and joined us in rejecting the decision and committing to protecting penalty rates in law. With continued pressure, we can save the weekend and save penalty rates.
