Volunteer Program

Your chance to be part of democracy in action in Melbourne.

Are you passionate about social justice? The environment? Local community issues? Workers' rights? Looking to be part of the solution? Here’s your opportunity to gain first-hand experience volunteering with the only Greens’ member of the Federal House of Representatives and make an impact in Melbourne.

Adam Bandt MP is looking for volunteers to join his team in Melbourne in the second half of 2017.

The volunteer program is an opportunity to develop your skills and contribute to the community.

We know skills can be built quickly. Initiative and a thirst for knowledge are the most important qualities we are looking for.

Volunteers may learn how to:

  • Respond to constituent concerns or help them solve problems;

  • Research and write about issues impacting on constituents, Melbourne and Australia;

  • Assist with outreach to community groups and organise events;

  • Build constituents’ ability to run community campaigns;

  • Execute a strategic issues based campaign;

  • Do a range of other things depending on projects to be designed in collaboration with you.

Volunteers are invited to contribute in the categories of constituent liaison, community organising, campaigns support & communications, internal communications or other areas desired by volunteers.

How does it work?

  • The position is voluntary. No financial remuneration is available and no employment positions are on offer;

  • Volunteers will be offered five training sessions and regular mentoring;

  • Costs incurred during project work will be reimbursed as negotiated;

  • Volunteers will be mentored by Electorate Officers and the Chief of Staff;

  • Expressions of interest are welcomed from students seeking a placement or internship for course accreditation;

  • Our office is open 9am-5pm Monday to Friday so availability during business hours is necessary. However, hours are flexible and will be negotiated to ensure a convenient arrangement.

How to apply:

The office of Adam Bandt MP is an equal opportunity employer; we know that strength comes with diversity and welcome applicants from all backgrounds. We encourage Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people as well as and people of any ability, race, religion, gender identity and sexual orientation to apply.

Please submit completed expressions of interest and CV (no more than 2 pages) by 9am Monday August 14 here.

If you would like more information about the program, please email Philippa your inquiry with the subject line "Volunteer Program 2017" to philippa@adambandt.com and include a contact telephone number, or call 9417 0759.
