Trump's new "axis of denial" greater threat than terrorism: Bandt
Greens climate change spokesperson Adam Bandt MP today responded to the alarming reports that Donald Trump is considering withdrawing from the global climate change agreement by urging the Prime Minister to call the President to prevent a new "axis of denial" forming.
"Malcolm Turnbull must pick up the phone and urge Donald Trump not to withdraw," said Mr Bandt.
"Malcolm Turnbull must pick up the phone and urge Donald Trump not to withdraw," said Mr Bandt.
"If the US withdraws from the Paris agreement or from the underpinning convention, the consequences could be grave.
"Donald Trump looks set to join Russia, Syria and Iran in a new "axis of denial" that would pose a bigger threat to Australia's security than terrorism.
"Global warming will accelerate the conflicts that lead to terrorism, as well as threatening our ability to provide a secure life and enough food for people here at home.
"Global warming is a threat multiplier and this new "axis of denial" looks set to make these threats worse.
"The Trumps in the Liberal party may have 'champagne on ice' in preparation for the US's withdrawal, but that ice won't be there for very long if we don't get global warming under control.
"This is just beginning of the battle with Trump. Withdrawing from the Paris agreement is not just up to him and will take time. Australia needs to support the people of the United States and the world who are working to prevent this move."
