Greens will pursue minimum wage legislation: Bandt

Greens employment spokesperson Adam Bandt MP today said that the Greens will press ahead with their bill to lift the minimum wage after today’s Fair Work Commission decision meant many full-time workers would still be living in poverty.
"Almost One in four people in poverty is working full-time and even though the economy is apparently strong, this decision will still leave many full-time workers living in poverty. Until we enshrine in law a minimum wage above poverty level, inequality will continue to grow in Australia."

"Australia is becoming a US style society where having a full-time job is no longer a guarantee of security. We need to change the laws."

"This decision is a very small step in the right direction, but it still leaves full-time workers on the minimum wage earning less than 20 dollars an hour while the price of power and housing continues to rise.

"The Greens will be introducing legislation in parliament this month to make sure the minimum wage is a living wage.”
