Budget in climate denial: Bandt
The budget confirms that the government has no climate and energy plan, Greens climate and energy spokesperson Adam Bandt MP said today.
“There wasn’t a single mention in the Budget speech of the greatest challenge facing us and threatening the Australian way of life,” said Mr. Bandt.
“This budget makes it clear that the government does not take the climate crisis seriously. Listening to the Treasurer last night, you’d think that climate change doesn’t exist.
“All available evidence suggests that One Nation’s Climate Denier in Chief, Malcolm Roberts, wrote this budget, not Scott Morrison.
“The budget re-announces the government’s Snowy Hydro 2.0 policy and includes some money for solar thermal, which they were forced to do against their will, and that’s it.
“Even Tony Abbott’s climate orphan - on which the government’s only claim to climate action rests - gets no new funding. As a result, the Emission Reduction Fund has less than $300 million left, which won’t be enough to meet the government’s paltry targets.
“At the same time, the government is putting $60 million into gas exploration.
“The climate crisis is growing and this Budget was another missed opportunity.”
