Turnbull can’t guarantee the NEG will pass the House thanks to coal crew: Bandt

Greens climate change and energy spokesperson Adam Bandt MP today said that because of the 4 to 5 coal-huggers on his backbench who have threatened to cross the floor, Malcolm Turnbull cannot guarantee the passage of the National Energy Guarantee legislation through the House of Representatives.

“Malcolm Turnbull can’t even guarantee that the NEG will pass the House of Representatives,” said Mr Bandt.

“After the Coalition Party Room meeting, the States can’t sign up to the NEG until Malcolm Turnbull explains what side deals will be done to get the coal crew on board.”

“The coal-huggers will demand more and more as the price for not crossing the floor, like public funds for coal-fired power stations.”

“Today we also found out the full modelling to support the wild claims of $550 per year power bill cuts consist of a single Excel spreadsheet file.”

“Now that it is clear the NEG policy may not survive the House of Representatives, Labor and the States need to join with the Greens to send this back to the drawing board.”
