Deputy Greens Leader and Employment and Industry spokesperson Adam Bandt MP today called for a budget to stimulate industry and boost jobs growth in light of unemployment reaching a 12-year high.

“Jobs growth should be a Budget priority.”

“Today we learned that over the last year the number of Australians unemployed increased by over 136,000.”

"The bad rise in unemployment hides a shocking jump in youth unemployment to 14.2%.”

"With youth unemployment over 20% in many regional areas, we are reaching crisis point.”

"If the government has its way, young people will be forced to live for six months a year with no income while they look for jobs that just aren't there.”

“Joe Hockey is pushing the same harmful economic policies that have failed to create jobs.”

“Nearly 800,000 Australians are now unemployed. These figures reflect the devastating reality for thousands of Australians seeking meaningful work.”

“Instead of trying to ram through budget cuts that hurt Australians, the budget should stimulate new industries and boost jobs growth.”
