More Holden job losses yet Abbott still has no plan for SA: Greens
Responding to reports that a further 270 jobs are to be cut from Holden in South Australia, Greens Deputy Leader and industry spokesperson Adam Bandt MP said SA is bleeding jobs and yet Tony Abbott still has no plan for the state.
"Next month, a further 270 people in South Australia will be out of a job, with no clear options for what is next," Mr Bandt said.
"Tony Abbott is happy to sit back and watch the whole Australian auto industry shut down, seeing tens of thousands of people uprooted or thrown out of work."
"Tony Abbott has no plan for sustainable jobs once Holden, Toyota and Ford are gone. The Greens do."
“The Greens’ plan would refocus auto industry assistance, opening it up for car and component makers to make the switch to electric cars, alternative fuel vehicles and renewable energy."
"The Greens' plan will support new carmakers in the growing electric and alternative fuel vehicles market wanting to come in and set up in Australia and help existing component manufacturers who make parts for electric and alternative fuel vehicles overseas."
Greens Senator for South Australia Penny Wright said: “We need to act now so that instead of bleeding jobs in SA, a revitalised electric car industry can create sustainable jobs in our state.”
"The Greens' plan will create and sustain auto industry jobs in SA, Victoria and right across the country by securing us a place in the electric car revolution that is sweeping the world.”
