Coalition Budget cuts come back to bite at ABC with RN job losses
Acting Greens Communications spokesperson Adam Bandt MP said that reports that jobs will be cut from Radio National at the ABC are a result of consecutive Coalition Budget cuts to our national broadcaster. It is also expected that further job cuts at the ABC will be announced this week. Mr Bandt warned the Coalition that the Greens will fight any further cuts to the ABC, including in the upcoming Mid-year Economic and Fiscal Outlook (MYEFO).
“The sad reports that jobs are to be cut from Radio National are the Coaltion’s consecutive Budget cuts coming back to bite our national broadcaster,” Mr Bandt said.
“Our thoughts are with the journalists and commentators who have and will be told they’re no longer needed.”
“Consecutive Coalition budget cuts are undermining our national broadcaster’s ability to thoroughly cover important stories from across the country and to produce quality local content.”
“Australians love our ABC and overwhelmingly trust the ABC as a credible news source, but the Coalition’s Budget cuts continue to put the ABC under pressure and place this trust at risk.”
“The upcoming MYEFO must not include any further cuts to the ABC or SBS.”
“The Greens will continue to fight any potential future cuts to our national broadcasters.”
