Government climate inaction screwing future for kids: Bandt
The latest warning on extreme weather released by the Climate Council today reinforces the failure of the Turnbull government to keep Australians safe, Greens Climate and Energy spokesperson Adam Bandt MP said today.
The report, Cranking Up The Intensity: Climate Change and Extreme Weather Events, says that extreme weather is getting worse as the climate continues to warm because of pollution.
“This report reinforces that our way of life is under threat from climate change and that we are screwing the future for our kids,” Mr Bandt said.
“The report shows seas are rising and driving coastal flooding, heatwaves are getting longer and hotter and we are facing more extreme fire weather and a longer bushfire season.”
“The Turnbull government is threatening the lives of Australians by failing to protect Australians from extreme weather.”
“The government is waging a war on renewable energy when it should be waging war against extreme weather. Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull needs to heed this report and put in place a plan to phase out coal-fired power stations, not build new ones.”
