Greens Climate Change & Energy spokesperson Adam Bandt MP said the Australian Industry Group’s report on energy released today belled the cat that renewable energy, not gas, is the answer to our energy system crisis.

“The Australian Industry Group’s report rightly notes that, under Malcolm Turnbull, our energy system is in crisis,” Mr Bandt said.

“In our current system, the power can go out when its needed most, threatening our businesses and economy.”

“The Ai Group has belled the cat, making it clear that renewable energy, not gas, is the way forward to solve our energy crisis.”

“The report states that there is a floor under the gas price in Australia. Even if we had coal seam gas mining in every suburb, every town and every regional centre, that gas would go offshore, be sold to the highest bidder internationally and do nothing for electricity prices for Australian manufacturing.”

“The report makes clear that renewables will drive down the cost of electricity. If we bring more renewables into the grid, we will get cheaper electricity for homes and businesses.”

“The only way to provide cheap, sustainable and clean energy for Australian businesses is with more wind, solar and battery storage. The Greens are pleased that businesses in Australia is now shouting this from the rooftops too.”
