HAZELWOOD IS GOING SILENT AND ABBOTT SHOULD FOLLOW SUIT: BANDT
“The calls today by the Australian Industry Group and Tony Abbott to keep Hazelwood open are not just dangerous and foolish, but create false hope for a community in the Latrobe Valley that needs certainty,” said Greens energy and climate change spokesperson, Adam Bandt MP.
“Mr. Relevance Deprivation Syndrome has popped up again, this time as a snake-oil salesman wanting to use tax-payer dollars to prop up one of the world’s dirtiest power stations.
"It would be laughable if it weren't for the fact that Tony Abbott and the Trumps on the backbench regularly dictate Malcolm Turnbull's policy.
“Hazelwood will close and the shift towards renewables is accelerating. The attempts to resist this are at best futile and at worst dangerous.
“Both the Abbott government and the Turnbull government have been asleep at the wheel, presiding over a shambolic national policy on climate and energy. What the people of Latrobe Valley need now is to be supported through this transition as part of a coherent national plan, which still doesn’t exist.
“It’s time to focus on the future. The age of coal is over.”
