Greens slam govt’s proposal for CEFC to fund coal
Responding to the government’s decision to introduce legislation allowing the Clean Energy Finance Corporation (CEFC) to invest in carbon capture and storage (CCS), Greens climate change and energy spokesperson Adam Bandt said the decision proves the government will pursue its sickening obsession with coal, no matter what the cost.
“Even coal-obsessed Donald Trump is cutting funding for this wacky idea,” said Mr Bandt.
“Last week, Trump's budget slashed funding to research into CCS, but this government is trying to outdo him by using money for clean energy to fund a broken technology.
“Subsiding coal through the clean energy bank is like pouring money from the health budget into asbestos.
“Only the Liberals think that coal is a clean energy source.
"The second the Liberals hear that renewable energy is booming, they take money from the renewables pot and give it to coal.
“The ghost of Tony Abbott is alive and well.
“The Greens will fight this move every step of the way.
“Labor and the Senate cross-bench must reject this latest act of vandalism from the government."
