Action needed on insecure work: Bandt
Greens Deputy Leader and employment spokesperson Adam Bandt, today urged national action on insecure employment, backing calls from former Deputy Prime Minister, Brian Howe.
"Insecure and precarious working arrangements are damaging lives and families," Mr Bandt said.
"We're creating generations of people locked out of home ownership. When you can't plan on having a regular income, it's harder to get a mortgage or even a good rental property."
"The days of a job for life may have gone, but that doesn't mean people should spend their lives worrying whether they'll have enough work to support themselves and their families."
"Brian Howe is right. We can't go back to the past but we need a future with fairness."
"With Australia the second highest user in the OECD of precarious forms of work, the federal government needs to make this a national priority."
"I urge the government to get behind my bill which would make enhancing job security one of the goals of the Fair Work Act."
Mr Bandt's Fair Work (Job Security and Fairer Bargaining) Amendment Bill 2012 is currently before the Parliament.
