Bandt to visit Germany on energy policy
Greens Deputy Leader Adam Bandt MP will visit Germany next week to examine the transformations in energy jobs across the country.
Mr Bandt's visit is being hosted by the German Federal Foreign Office and includes meetings with government and ministry officials, business, NGOs and media outlets. The trip is fully funded by the German government and comes at no cost to the Australian taxpayer.
"As we begin our journey to a clean energy economy in July, we need to learn the lessons of others who have travelled this road. Germany is one of the standout countries in the shift to a low carbon economy," Mr Bandt said.
"The latest figures reveal there are more than 380,000 jobs in renewable energy in Germany, with 125,000 in the solar industry alone."
"I am looking forward to deepening my understanding of how they have transformed their economy."
"I am also looking forward to meeting German Greens MPs, who were the architects of this jobs-rich clean energy transformation when they were in government."
Mr Bandt will leave Australia on Friday and conduct his tour of Germany from April 22-28.
