Labor Must Use 'Crisis' To Stop Napthine’s East-West Toll Road
Member for Melbourne and Deputy Greens Leader, Adam Bandt, today called on Labor leader Bill Shorten to pull Victorian Labor into line over its support for the Napthine Government’s East-West toll road.
“The Greens are calling on Victorian Labor leader Daniel Andrews to make his support of the Napthine Budget conditional on no East-West contracts being signed before the election,” said Mr Bandt.
“The East-West toll road is a multibillion-dollar white elephant, sucking billions from the Federal and Victorian budgets.
“Labor has previously said that the tollway contracts should be put off until after the election. Daniel Andrews now has the chance to make that happen.
“This is a test for Labor.
“However, Victorian Labor leader Daniel Andrews is falling over himself to support the limping Napthine Government's Budget, including the East-West toll road.
“If Daniel Andrews goes ahead and supports the East-West toll road, Labor’s Federal leadership should intervene and pull him into line,” said Mr Bandt.
