    Centrelink Town Hall

    The Government intends to close the Abbotsford Centrelink permanently in August, leaving thousands of people with no local Centrelink office, in the middle of a health crisis.

    We need your help to keep Centrelink open - join our online Town Hall to find out how we can #SaveCentrelink!

    Centrelink services are crucial to thousands of people within our community, especially in the current health and economic crisis. Melbourne has more public housing residences than almost any other area in the country and before the crisis, Melbourne housed:

    • over 7000 Aged Pensioners;
    • over 4000 people on Disablity Support;
    • over 7000 families receiving support;
    • at least 4000 people on JobSeeker; and
    • thousands of renters and students who also require access to Centrelink services.

    No doubt, the number of people accessing Centrelink services will have grown markedly in the last few months as a result of the pandemic.

    Closing a major Centrelink office while the country suffers Depression-era joblessness is utter incompetence and a savage attack on people in need of help.

    With just over a month until the Government closes the Centrelink permanently, now is the time to join our campaign to #SaveCentrelink.

    We are hosting an online Town Hall event on Tuesday 7 July at 6pm. Simply RSVP to the event and you will be emailed a link to access the event on the night.

    The Town Hall will feature a guest panel, including:

    • Adam Bandt MP
    • Jack Hewitt, from the Australian Unemployed Workers Union
    • Grant Guppy, Vice President of Finbar Neighbourhood House and member of the City of Yarra Disability Advisory Committee; and
    • Sitina Mustafa, Vice-President of the Australian Oromo Community Association Victoria and Abbotsford Centrelink client.

    With more speakers to be announced, the Town Hall will be an important way to learn about how you can help to #SaveCentrelink.

    RSVP to the online Centrelink Town Hall event now to hear from the community and to find out how you can get involved in our campaign to #saveCentrelink.
