End Excessive Profiteering: Investigate the Electricity Retailers

The deregulation and privatisation of the retail electricity sector has been a comprehensive failure. It has led to excessive profiteering, rising pollution and unacceptably high power bills.

Enough is enough.

We're calling for a parliamentary commission of inquiry to investigate the electricity retailers. Will you add your voice to our campaign?

Electricity is an essential public service but right now, it's being run like a stockmarket. Deregulation of our electricity market has only increased prices, with some analysis showing that Australian electricity prices are among the most expensive in the world.

Adam Bandt has announced that the Greens will introduce a bill into both the Senate and the House of Representatives to establish a parliamentary commission of inquiry into the excessive profiteering and the failure of deregulation and privatisation of the retail electricity sector.

A commission of inquiry is a crucial step towards reregulating electricity prices and getting more renewables into the energy mix, so we can cut pollution and bring down power bills.
