Greens Deputy Leader and HSR spokesperson Adam Bandt MP today said a new report has given added impetus to East Coast high-speed rail (HSR).

“The Greens would build high-speed rail along Australia’s east coast. The case is already too compelling not to. Today’s high-level report makes it more so,” said Mr Bandt.

“The report by Beyond Zero Emissions, the German Aerospace Centre and the University of Melbourne makes clear the myriad advantages HSR would bring to the majority of Australians who live along the east coast.

“Today’s report shows that clean, high-speed, accessible HSR is an even more realistic prospect with the report suggesting that it could be constructed more affordably than previously thought.

“Tony Abbott could create a High-Speed Rail authority to begin work on this now. If he did it would create a massive stimulus for our manufacturing sector right when it needs it but he still thinks road and cars are the answer,” said Mr Bandt.

Details of the report can be found here.
