Fate of East-West toll road rests with Labor

Greens Deputy Leader Adam Bandt MP today said that the fate of the proposed $8 billion East-West toll road rests with Labor.

“Dennis Napthine is proceeding to flush at least $8 billion dollars of taxpayers’ money down the drain, with Linking Melbourne Authority reportedly consulting with councils on where the groundwork will begin,” said Mr Bandt.

“If Labor commits to tearing up the contracts for the proposed toll road if it wins the State election later this year, I don’t believe that the project would proceed.

IPA irresponsible to call for end to minimum wage

Greens Deputy Leader and Industry spokesperson Adam Bandt MP today said that the IPA was irresponsible to call for the end to the minimum wage.

“The Institute of Public Affairs is a group of economic extremists. Calling for the end of the minimum wage is a threat to the country’s way of life,” said Mr Bandt.

“Our prosperity does not and should not depend upon pitching at least 1.5 million low-income Australian workers into poverty. The suggestion that it should is regressive, offensive and unnecessary.

Planning committee urged to reject East-West toll road

Greens Deputy Leader and Member for Melbourne Adam Bandt MP today urged the project assessment committee to reject the proposed East-West toll road.

“Although today was the first time I have had the opportunity to address the committee, what I said hasn’t changed. This proposal is a white elephant in the making that will waste billions of taxpayers’ dollars, fill our suburbs up with more cars, create more pollution and destroy what’s best about inner Melbourne,” said Mr Bandt.

“The proposed project’s numbers don’t add up and there’s no business case for it. It will turn the city into a rat’s nest of on and off ramps and people will still be stuck in traffic because the road will quickly fill up with more cars, adding to pollution.

Green Army holds our young people and land in equal contempt

Greens Deputy Leader, Adam Bandt MP, today said that the Abbott Government’s Green Army shows that it holds our young people and our land, sea and air in equal contempt.

“Only Tony Abbott could create a 'workforce' where the workers aren't legally workers and have no workplace rights.

Greg Hunt failing Government’s first duty

Greens Deputy Leader, Adam Bandt MP, today said that the Minister for Environment is failing miserably in his first duty to protect Australians.
