Applications are now open for the federal Volunteer Grants 2016 program.
Melbourne wouldn't be the vibrant and welcoming place it is today without the contribution of volunteers. So we encourage organisations in Melbourne to apply for a federal Volunteer Grant to meet the costs of supporting their volunteers.
Grants of $1,000 to $5,000 are available to community groups and not-for-profit organisations for practical measures to help volunteers.
Last year over $296,000 was distributed in Volunteer Grants to organisations and community groups in the electorate of Melbourne.
Organisations can use the money for training, volunteer costs or small equipment items that will make volunteers' work easier, safer, or more enjoyable. Items purchased must be to benefit volunteers, rather than exclusively paid staff or owners.
The Volunteer Grants can contribute towards the costs of items, including but not limited to:
- Volunteer training costs
- First aid equipment
- Some transport costs for volunteers, including public transport for volunteers with a disability
- Tools and equipment
- Sporting referee kits
- Office and kitchen equipment
- Garden equipment
Priority will be given to organisations and community groups working with disadvantaged communities, as well as organisations that have more volunteers than staff or a higher number of volunteers that will directly benefit from the items that are bought.
This is a great chance for Melbourne organisations to support their volunteers.

Applications close at 2pm on 20 December 2016.
