LIFT JOBSEEKER TO $80 A DAY

In a wealthy country like Australia, no one should be living in poverty. But right now, people on Youth Allowance and JobSeeker are forced to live on just $44 a day.

Poverty is a political choice – and the Government has decided to line the pockets of billionaires with tax cuts, while forcing millions of Australians into poverty. They’ve lifted JobSeeker but just $3.57 a day, while giving $325 billion in tax breaks to people who don’t need it, including billionaires.

There are more than 1.5 million Australians currently looking for work in a job market with only 192,000 vacancies. There simply aren’t enough jobs to go around.

We have a plan to lift the rate of JobSeeker and other income support above the poverty line to $88 a day, so everyone has enough money to eat and pay the bills. When we provide people with a universal liveable income by lifting JobSeeker back above the poverty line, everyone gets the chance to live a good life.

The Greens will push to wind back handouts to the billionaires and big corporations and use the money for all of us, lifting JobSeeker and other income supports to $88 a day.
